Very Durable

by spassotigre: Written: Dec 21 '07

Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, roomy, comfortable, durable. Looks nice on the inside and out.
Cons: backseat windows only roll down 5 inches. Also clanking noise and skidding break problem.
The Bottom Line: I have been through 2 cars since I bought the Yukon and I still have it.

I bought my 1997 Yukon SLT back in April 2001 when it had 40,000 miles on it because I was moving from NY to Texas and needed something to tow a Uhaul trailer full of my stuff. I bought it from a Dealer that was a good friend of the family and got a really good deal. The previous owner took great care of it and it was in immaculate condition. I being in my early 20's beat the living crap out of it. I took it mudding, ran over medians like it was nothing and raced it around like I could win by knocking the other smaller cars off the road. It has alot of power for a truck that big and rides like a Cadillac. It is now December 2007 and 170,000 miles later, This truck has never left me stranded except for when the fuel pump went after 150,000 miles. I have had several repairs done after 100,000 miles but that's mostly stuff that needed to be tightened from me beating the crap out of it in it's early years. My only complaints are that there is an annoying clanking noise when taking turns that nobody seems to be able to correctly diagnose. Also the breaks sometimes give the sensation of skidding when pulling into a parking spot. This problem hasn't been able to be solved by 2 different machanics. Maybe if I take it to a GM dealer they can solve these problems but I have not taken it there yet because they charge triple. Anyways I would definately recommend this truck for a single person because the seats fold down and if you put blankets down, it is the size of a full bed. I would recommend for families because it is safe and lot of space. This SUV is also great for drivingt across country as it is very comfortable for long trips. It still has the origional shocks and rides very smooth.
