My husband and I have owned a 1997 Eclipse RS since it was released in 1997. The car currently has 85,000 miles on it and in good shape.
The engine has been a huge cost factor for us. The computer had to replaced once as it would continiously give false error codes stalling the car. The computer may need to replaced again. It is not reading the oxygen sensor correctly and constantly causing the oxygen sensor light to come on. In the last few years, this car has cost us at least a thousand in repairs from spark plugs to radiator replacement. The turn signal has trouble operating when the flashers are on and can kill turn signal usage unless you click the flasher button twice. One of the window buttons is touchy. The back seat broke and doesn't stay up by itself anymore. Lastly, the passengers side seat belt doesn't work correctly. Truthfully, I have an 88 oldsmobile that works better than this car.
The body is nicely designed. We have been surprised what we have been able to fit in the trunk. It looks decepetively smaller than it actually is. The seats are comfortable. What we don't like is how low it rides to the ground. My husband ripped the under end of the front of the car because it is so low. We have also experienced traction issues in rain and snow due to this issue.
The car includes a moon roof and a CD player that if stolen won't work. We have lived in apartment complexes where cars were broken into and this car was passed up due to that feature.
