Pros: economy, handling, performance, comfortable interior, trunk space, durability
Cons: I can't think of any
This car has been great to me. I bought the car used in 2002 for $ 2,800, with about 100,000 miles on it. I bought it because I was impressed with the look, condition and handling of the car. I've always taken the best care of it, and it's been great to me. Besides changing the fluids routinely, the only maintenance I've performed follows: At 100,000 miles, I replaced the brake shoes and pads. At 130,000 miles, I replaced a water pump, alternator (may have been partially my fault for leaving the car sit so long while I was at school b/c the amp for the subs does keep a draw to maintain that the capacitors are constantly loaded), and the upstream EGO sensor. The car has the original clutch, and it works perfectly. The car has always driven straight down the road without any pulling, and the ride is smooth. Braking, acceleration and cornering all handle impressively. I average 500 miles to a tank of gas, and I once worked out the gas mileage on the highway portion of a road trip to 42 mpg. The car is very comfortable in the driver and passenger position, and the rear can be tight, but it is roomy for a compact car. The only additions Ive made to the car are a Clarion CD player, and Infinity subs powered by an MA Audio amp.
Ive read the negative reviews on here and my experience with this car has been far from them. I am inclined to believe that all the complaints made about brakes and clutches wearing prematurely were caused by the lack of skill of the driver. I have 130,000 miles on one clutch because the previous owner of the car took great care of it and knew how to drive it, and I have done the same. And about complaints of the electrical and warning light system failing, I would also believe that was caused by the tampering and modifying of certain things by the cars owner. Everything has worked perfectly for me. This shows that if you take care of the car and perform routine checks and fluid changes, and you know how to drive it, the car will take care of you.
