I bought my 1997 Supra, silver, 6 speed, twin turbo with removable roof in September, 1999. It had 43,000 miles on it at the time. It has been a great car.
The Supra is unique, rare, and refined. No squeaks or rattles. Tight. The handling is precise. There is nothing like the sound of the turbos spooling up with the top removed as the outside becomes a blur.
I have 68,000 miles on it and have not had to have any
extra service work done to it. I have my local Toyota dealer perform the recommended service work (since the turbos use the engine oil, I have the oil changed every 2,500 miiles). The only part that I have had to replace
is the battery at around 60,000 miles.
Beware: the tires cannot be rotated. The tires on the
back are larger than the front tires, so you can expect
to spend $800.00 or so every 14,000 miles for a new
set of high performance tires.
The car has no trunk, very little space in the rear. The back seat is virtually non-existent. The stereo system is weak for a car in this price range.
Still, the satisfaction of owning a unique, rare, (not to mention very fast) reliable sports car outweighs these minor drawbacks, for me.
