I am leasing a 1999 Cavalier after recently trading in a 1996 Prizm, and I must say that the Cavalier is a much sportier car and definitely more fun to drive. I have had more compliments on the look of the car than any other car I've ever owned. And it drives very well! The engine is quiet but it has quite a bit of power (for a compact car). The only negative thing about the car is the seat belt. The seat belts in my old Prizm were strong and secure and easy to handle. But on the Cavalier, the seat belts feel like they're cheaply made. They're hard to adjust and aren't as long as the Prizm's belts. And they're definitely not comfortable to wear. Otherwise, I love the car!
