I'm writing about this difficulty I've encountered with my Cavalier separately (see also
http://www.epinions.com/auto-review-518C-3B91F9-385FE0CB-bd4) because I love everything else about my Cavalier, but I believe this safety problem should be highlighted.
The floormats that came with my Cavalier are short. Unfortunately, the driver's side floormat is just long enough to catch the clutch pedal when it's fully depressed and hold it down. I have to make sure every time I get in the car that the floormat is fully pulled towards the seat or the clutch pedal gets caught and I can't shift reliably. I have had problems shifting when the floormat has scooted forward while I was driving because I shifted my feet and caught the pedal when I tried to shift. Luckily, I haven't gotten into an accident because of this problem, but I can see where it is hazard that others may run into as well.
The possible solutions are fairly simple. Remove the floormat, affix it to the floor so that it doesn't slide forward, or replace the floormat with a different length floormat. I wouldn't not buy this car because of the floormats, but I would like people to be aware of the potential hazard.
