I have driven both the standard 2.2 L Cavaliers and the 2.4 L Z24/Z22 Cavaliers. The engine and power train of the 2.2 L is weak and it made some terrible sounds after only 400 km of highway driving. However, this is supposed to be "normal" for this motor. The 2.4 L is strong and without the problems I noted with the 2.2 L.
Handling is average in the 2.2 L and slightly better in the Z24/Z22. The rear end is too loose in both models; however, it is only a problem if you drive at higher speeds. Moderately high speed corners and rough roads cause the rear end to move around more than any other car I have ever driven. However, the Z24/Z22 is surprising flat going into sharp corners so the loose rear end doesn't require the driver to slow down as much as would otherwise be expected.
The premium stereo is adequate, but will not suit a serious audiophile. The interior and panel fit is a little cheap. Cruise control, air conditioning and the remote keyless entry work well. Oddly, if the car is equipped with the keyless entry system it will not have a quick release for the trunk in the cabin of the car. This means the trunk can only be opened if the car is turned off or with the key. It is a small issue, but it is very inconvenient.
The power sunroof is a fun and worth while option.
