I bought a 1999 cavalier, my very first vehicle. I had decided to buy a brand new car to avoid the problems of a used one. I had originally decided to buy a Honda but ultimately decided on the cavalier because of the price difference. This proved to be the biggest mistake of my life. After a few months of having the car the rotors warped. The dealership decided to resurface them and sent me on my way. Within the next 4 months my rotors warped again, only this time to the point where I was unable to stop going up a hill. I took the car back in and the dealership told me that it was not their responsibility to fix them as brakes are often an indicator of how a person drives. I was so angry, my car wasn't even a year old and on top of the brake problem I had other little things go wrong with the interior. I was so fed up with being in and out of the dealership with this car that I phoned GM and finally got them to make the dealership replace my brakes. having that done I figured that was that. Well a few weeks later my brakes were starting to squeak and my front tires had started to wobble. The dealership informed me that the mechanic who had replaced my brakes mistakingly put the old brake pads back on my car!!!!. And they made me pay for the replacements. The long and short of it is that I took my car to another dealership were since this incident have:
1) had my tires replaced
2) had many wheel weights replaced which seem to be just falling of my car
3) Had the main part of my dashboard replaced because it cracked right down the middle. With this problem GM said that they were doing me a favor which was out of the ordinary ( can you say potential lawsuit if the dash came flying at me in an accident
4) found out that my engine is leaking oil in three places. My car only has 77,000 kms on it!!!
5) had the trunk lock replaced because I couldn't get into it
Although the list goes on my latest problem is the oil leaks and the water pump. The oil leaks alone are going to cost me at least $1500. I phone GM about this problem as well and informed me that they have helped me enough in the past and even though this may be a premature problem it was my fault for picking a lemon.
My advice to others out there who are looking to buy a cavalier is DON'T. You will be faced with nothing but frustration and problems and if that isn't enough the makers of your vehicle don't want to help you nor do they stand behind their vehicles.
I also want to ask if anyone out there has any information as to where I can get help or advice about dealing with GM and these problems.
I am at the end of my rope.
