I bought this minivan used in March of 2002. It had 24K miles on it at that time. I needed a van for my growing family and the price was just right, so it seemed like the perfect solution. Big mistake!
Within the first few weeks of owning the Voyager, there was a fuel cylinder leak and the the power locks needed repaired. Shortly after, we had a problem with the starter. All of these problems were luckily still covered under the manufacturers warranty so I am not sure how much the repairs would have been.
We have had another problem that I have been told isn't a problem with the car, but I have never had this problem with any other car and I have driven other minivans before. I have had to replace 5 tires over 2 years and the tires I bought were top of the line. I do not know much about tires but this is the only vehicle this has ever happened to me in.
Additionally, we had a transmission problem at about 38K miles. It cost us a little over $400 to fix, which actually isn't a lot when it comes to transmissions but it scared me that we were having problems so early on.
Just recently, at 48K miles, the air conditioner stopped working. I took it to a shop for a recharge at a cost of $96. This was done and 2 days later, the air conditioner wasn't working again. It turns out a part of it was leaking that is located under the dash. In order to fix it, the dash board would have to be removed. The cost for this repair was estimated at over $1,000.
We had enough! We sold it the very next day to a dealer. We could have gotten much more out of it by selling it to a private party but I would never wish this car on anyone. So we sold it back to the dealer we bought it from. We originally bought it for $16,000 a year and 2 months ago. We got $7,600 for it. Taking into consideration all the repairs we had done and the headaches it caused, we lost out on the deal. But, truthfully, we were so glad to get rid of it. I hated the feeling of driving around wondering what would happen to the van next.
P.S. Check out my review on my 1998 Ford Escort. Now there is a reliable car! We still have it and love it! No major repairs yet.
