GMC Jimmy

Product Rating: 3.0 Recommended: No

Pros: A little quick, a little comfy, and a little money
Cons: read my epinion, there's too many to list, but it's still my baby
The Bottom Line: A decent looking car, but mine was just a lemon I guess...

The GMC Jimmy has been around for quite some time now. For the year 2000, in which being it's 30th year in production, you would think that they would make the car/truck, in my opinion, a little better.

I bought my 2000 SLS (2Door) Jimmy in late 1999, brand spankin' new! I was so happy, I've wanted one of these for so long and now it's finally mine! I'll give you a little bit of info on the car that I bought:

Year: 2000, obviously
$$$: Approx. 23K out the door
Engine: 4.3L Vortec V6
HorsePower: 190
Torque: 220 (You can feel it)
MPG(Miles per Gallon): A pitiful 16 in the city and 22
on the highway! Filling it's 17 gallon tank isn't too pretty when you have to fill it up every other day going from school, to work and back... 25 bucks isn't too easy to come by anymore...

The Vehicle also came with:
-6 Speaker AM/FM CD stereo with the speed/volume control. So if you're driving faster and the outside noise starts to take over, the volume will automatically adjust to a louder state.
-Manual lumbar support for the driver's seat
-Lighted visors (which I think are standard on just about any car now-a-days)
-However, many newer cars (2003 and up) DO NOT come with an ashtray and/or cigarette lighter. Mine did, I think at that year, everyone else's did too... But did their's come with two extra power outlets? Oh yeah, and they're out of the way and convenient as well, right by the passengers legs :)
-Keyless entry I believe was a standard option for this model. With the panic and hatch release button as well.
-Overhead digital temperature and compass gauges with both Celcius and Fahrenheit options! (Just in case you decided to drive to say... Asia or something...
-Considerably dark factory tint on the back hatch as well as back seat windows. I hear that people are actually getting pulled over for the tint that they put on these SUV's. Crazy world, isn't it?
-And my beautiful skylit view out of the top, via my power sunroof (retractable, yay!)

A bit about why I don't like my truck anymore :)

Although it has been good to me in ways of major maintenance, other, significantly smaller problems have occured. Such things as:

-One of the pistons not working anymore (which was NOT covered by my warranty because of me being over my mileage (64K) So that costed me around $600 to get that fixed at a GM Goodwrench certified dealership.

-Rattling of both doors, and all speaker covers as well as something in the back in which I'm not quite sure of which thingamajig it is. But basically everything rattles, I don't listen to loud music and don't live or drive on a dirt road, so I don't have any legitimate excuse for my car to make that much noise. It's quite embarassing when taking a date out and having her to speak up because, not the engine, but the rest of the car is TOO LOUD!

-Having to have the weatherstriping on both doors replaced TWICE! Yes people, not once, but twice... Because the air noise that was leaking through above my windows was so loud that I couldn't even listen to the radio half of the time. It's like the whistle and the rattling together made it's own, unpleasant, rythm...

-Replacement of the sunroof because, that too, had a leak. I discovered this for the first time while driving through a car wash! GREAT! I'm stuck in this chamber of water for 10 minutes while my car is doused with hot, soapy water. Much fun, let me tell you.

-The recliner handle on the side of my drivers seat broke off after my warranty was up. Before that, my passengers seat handle had broken off too, AHH! Good thing I got at least ONE of them fixed with the warranty...

-And I needed to buy another brake light for the top of my truck (which costed around 130 bucks) because I hit a bump on the highway and it flew off. Good thing that was glued on because boy... that little light FLEW! Right into someone else's windshield... More fun...

-Not to mention, the GMC label in the middle of my grill is slowly falling off. Not looking to great when you're trying to pick up chicks. "Nice, uh... G C?" Yeah right...

To fix all of these little problems on this car would probably cost me close to 1500 bucks... SHEESH!

But the car's not totally and utterly horrible

-I enjoy the smooth, although noisy, ride of the truck. Not a cadillac smooth, but a truck kind of smooth. You have to be a truck person to enjoy it. Feeling the light tap of every block of cement. A slight bounce when you slam on the brakes, as well as hit a bump. And the feeling of "HOLY S*!*" when you're flying across an intersection and you're lifted out of your seat upon crossing the center. Oh joy...

-The steering is just right for me. You have to use a little muscle to turn it. I mean it's not like you have to use both hands and go all out on it, but it's not like a feather. I like to feel like I'm moving the car, not the car moving me, if you know what I mean.

-The lumbar support is nice, however when you hit a bump it goes back in and you have to crank it back out.

-Cruise control, always a gift for those long and trecherous trips. You just set it, take your big ole foot off the pedal and it goes. However when you're going down hill and the person behind you doesn't have cruise on, mind you, it brakes automatically, so watch your behind.

-The CD tray is a part of the arm rest, fitting, umm... around 6 CD's in it, snuggly. Yeah, junk builds up pretty quick in that little spot, be careful of what your girlfriend puts in there too. Soon enough you'll see a J-LO or Selena CD in there, not fun for those, again, long and trecherous trips. (That's when my car comes in handy, you can't hear the music that much anyways, the car rattles too much :) BONUS!

-Daytime Running Lights are great! Thank you whoever invented those! Or I should say, had that idea. Never having to worry about turning your lights on or off is beautiful. I will only buy a car with this feature, yes, it's that wonderful. No dead batteries from leaving your lights on, since I'm notorious for doing that, especially on trips. So we're stuck listening to J-LO in the hotel room while the AAA truck comes to jump my car for a 100 bucks... SHEESH!

-And just enough room for four people, good idea guys. Oh look... we can't all fit in my car... Tony's 6'5, he can't fit in the back and my girlfriend's in the front, look's like I can't drive :) hehe. Always saves me gas when the guy with the Suburban comes around, haha.

Well that's my car for ya, hope you enjoyed it as well as learned from it.
