This is our first minivan so I really can not make a comparison to any other van.
We purchased the Honda due to its reputation for quality. Read all of the reviews and waited an additional year to make sure Honda worked out all of the kinks before buying one.
Have had it for approximately 4 months and no problems yet. Provides excellent utility for us (with our two kids). The engine is very smooth and quite and from what I gather very powerful relative to other vans, however acceleration is slow (compared to sedans) but probably understandable considering the approximately 4500 lb weight.
Interior is also excellent, however disappointed that leather is not an option. We did manage to have leather installed as a dealer option for an additional $1,600. Tons of space for storage. The cup holders are abundant and excellent. They can even accommodate the Super Size drinks you get from McDonalds, which is far, more than I can say for most sedans.
The third row Magic seat is probably one of the best things about the vehicle. Can not tell you how many times I have used it even in the short 4 months that we have had the car.
The electric doors are also excellent, they reduce the risk of the kids getting their hands crushed due to slamming shut traditional doors.
The following are the only improvements this vehicle needs in my opinion:
1) Better insulation so that the vehicle rides quieter in highway speeds.
2) Slightly more powerful engine so acceleration is a bit better than what it is.
3) Optional Leather seats so when kids spill things or throw up clean up is easier.
4) The ability to move the front seats and center row seats further back to better accommodate 6 footers.
5) Optional entertainment system (TV, DVD, VCR) to keep kids occupied on longer trips.
Maybe Honda can introduce a minivan with these features (standard) under the Acura label for an additional $5K.
Once again please note although the above would be nice to haves, it is still an excellent vehicle with a great deal of utility for families.
