I wrote a review on this car about a month after I had gotten the car. In that review, I stated that I was not impressed with the dealership, but was impressed with the car.
I have had this car for 4 months now. I'm beginning to think my rating needs to be lowered. Somewhere in the beginning of May I started noticing that the car was hesitating when I would reverse. Then one night I was starting off from a red light and it hesitated again. From working with computers (especially error messages) I've learned that it needs to happen more than once before I'm gonna do anything about it.
Then at least one more time it happened again. What had really gotten me was that one saturday morning the car started making this tapping noise. I was concerned, because it sounded almost like the noise when static electricity builds up and you touch someone. I guess it kind of sounded like a spark plug misfiring or something, I'm not sure. The problem didn't happen when I took it for service.
So, worried that the car might blow up, or who knows what...I called the dealer and asked for the service department. I found out that the service department is only open during the week. That was upsetting. I work nights, so the last thing I want to do during the week is sit at a dealer when I'm supposed to be sleeping.
Monday morning I call them back and explain what the car was doing. I was told that it would be at LEAST a week before they could schedule an appointment. Then after looking again, he happened to find an appointment for that Wednesday. I took it, even though it was in the middle of when I should be asleep.
I arrive at the dealer that Wednesday with 4 complaints. One is the hesitating. The next is the tapping noise. Then there is the cargo net issue (got the net, but nothing to mount it to). And the fact that my front headlight gets moisture in it. I dropped it off at about 1pm. I ended up calling them around 5:30pm to see what was going on and was told that I could come get it.
When I returned to the dealership to get the car, I was told that that they couldn't reproduce the tapping noise, but found the cause of the hesitation. They also said that they would have to order the parts and I would have to bring it in when the parts arrive. I didn't exactly expect them to have the parts in stock, especially considering that it was a 2000 model.
May 30th I finally received a little printout with a note on it that said the parts are in. It was about three weeks after I had initially taken it in. I'm just glad that the problem didn't make the car undriveable. The other downside was that for the three weeks where the car was not working properly, I had REALLY bad gas milage.
I have not had the repair done yet, but probably will next week. If you have a doubt that you might be experiencing the same problem, I've noticed that it only seems to be a problem when the air conditioning is running. They ordered me a throttle sensor (?), and said that was the problem, but we will see.
I still like the car itself. It's not very encouraging to have to wait 3 weeks for parts.
