This car has blown me away. I only ever looked at Chevrolets, Toyotas, Honda and Dodge. I never thought that Hyundais were any good. But having this car has changed my mind about them.
This car is overall great with some minor inperfections.
Engine:
This car let's you know who's boss. It has a nice, fresh clean sound. A nice roar when you drop down n the gas. But when your just crusing, it calms down and has very little noise. We have the lowest 4-cyl option. (Update 2009: Engine started having problems, gasket let go and the engine idles very slowly nearly stalling when at idle. Also sounds to be a small knocking under load. 161k).
Interior:
Well in our car, everything is grey. Everything! So the color is kinda dull. Do I've been adding color (ex. wheel cover, mats, etc.) Road noise is low, well insulated. When you hit the gas mind you, you hear it :D The seats are comfortable, feels like sitting on a cloud. It has back support adjustments for people the don't like the old style bucket seats. There is lots of room inside. I am 5ft 10in. I can adkust the front see and I can go about another 5in farther than I can reach. I put the seat all the way back and sat in the rear and my knees weren't in the seat, I was suprised. (Update 2009: Interior has held up wonderfully, only the driver's adjustable headrest seems to have torn slightly 161k).
Stereo System:
It's good, but probably not for teens like me. I like music with some bass, and this car isn't that great for bass. It's kind of passive to heavy music. So if anyone really likes to listen to music while driving, you might want to get yourself new speakers. I have a cassette deck, so I have to hook my mp3 to the deck. Frustrating, so it's a good idea to get a cd or mp3 system too.
Exterior Look:
Hot, it has the look of a decent car. Can match up with some of the good ones. The paint is bit dull though, and confusing, we have a mixed paint. Grey in shade, grey/red in sunlight. Kind of messed up. The winshield is large so you get a good view form the higher up seats. Mind you for ours, in the winder, the winshield liked to fog on the inside and then freeze from the cold. We could get a mini heater but this just proves a little annoying. (Update 2009: Body is still in amazing shape, drove in winters and on bad roads. Small golden spots showing near bottom of doors at 161k).
Trunk Space:
Lots, it seems it goes deep and wide. Our car for some reason has a weird black substance on the sides of the trunk, so you have to keep stuff away from the very edges. Mind you I believe it's just our car.
Problems:
The Stereo, not cd/mp3 / speakers aren't good
Winshield, fogs and freezes in winter
Weird black stuff in the trunk
A few minor repairs:
We purchased the car 2nd hand at 84,000 kms.
85,000 - Oil and air change. (oil filter, air filter and oil fluid)
85,000 - New Brake pads
88,000kms - New front ball bearings
89,000kms - New timing belt
(Missing items here)
160,000kms - New brake shoes
160k - Exhaust parts (flex pipe) replaced twice.
160k - Right lower ball joint
161k - Hole in exhaust
161k- Manifold Gasket
These were minor, the timing belt is listed to be changed at 88,000 kms to be safe. They recomend you do. We changed the oil and air filter because we wanted our car running clean. Brakes are an obvious thing, we want to be safe, so we switched it up. The major problem was the ball bearings. The fron bearings started making a weird noise so we needed to switch them. We have a Chevrolet Corisca with 250,000 - 270,000kms on it. I don't remember exactly but it's in there. And we have never had to replace the bearings. The new 160k items are normal wear I assume, kms are starting to catch up.
Overall, a great car with some minor problems that can be fixed with ease.
