The 2000 Camry was my first car and still is my car. Up until a few weeks ago, my dad and I shared this car. I found a really awesome red 1987 Camaro for $800 so I bought it. I let my dad drive it so he could take it to be fixed (it had a few problems but it runs fine). He liked it so much that he said if I let him have the Camaro he will let me take the Camry with me when I move away to college and only make half the payments. I love this Camry so I agreed.
Now, I'm a total girlie girl who knows nothing about cars but I know my Camry is something special. If my Camry ever dies, I'm going to buy another one.
My car is the white 2000 Camry CE with automatic transmission. Air, power door locks, power windows, anti lock brakes were all available as options. Front driver and passenger airbags are standard but side airbags are available as an option.
The CE is a 4 cylinder engine. The two other types, the LE and XLE are available in V6. I'm perfectly happy with the 4 cylinder but I am not a serious car person. Many may not be satisfied with the 4 cylinder so it's good to have the V6 option.
The thing I love most about the Camry is the comfort. It's like you're driving around while you are sitting on your sofa! I never feel uncomfortable or awkward while driving.
The Camry is a four door sedan. It handles very well. I feel confident when I drive because I know the Camry will go where I want it to. It handles curves and turns very well and the steering wheel straightens up quickly after turns. It takes (best guess) about 6 seconds to accelerate from 0-40 mph. I don't have a problem getting up or going down hills. I can reach speeds of 70 mph and still feel like I have great control of the car.
The interior is nice and roomy. It can fit 4 adults and still be comfortable. I am only about 5'3" so I usually never have much of a problem with leg room in any car, but my taller friends fit in and have plenty of room. My Camry has cloth interior and it isn't very luxurious but it is still nice and soft.
The trunk is very spacious. I have never had any problem with not having enough room. Perfect for the people who love to shop, like me.
The console has a large box that opens and closes between the two front seats. I usually store CDs in this box. There are two cup holders in front of the box that have two flaps over them so you can cover them when not in use. I usually put my cell phone in one holder and my drink if I have one in the other. By the way I never talk on my cell phone while I'm driving I just keep it there so it can be easily accessed in emergencies. Below the radio and climate controls there is an ashtray (which I don't use) and an open compartment where you can store more things.
The only problem is have is the door handles don't hold up very well, at least for me. I have never been hit or hit anything on my driver's side but the driver side door handle has broken almost completely off. I can still open it with no problem by just reaching up underneath and pulling like normal. Not a big deal just kind of irritating because I can't figure it out.
The controls such as lights, wipers, turn signals, etc. are very easy to locate and use.
The Camry comes with an AM/FM cassette and CD player. I think the sound is great but I don't like loud music and heavy bass when I'm driving so the real sound enthusiasts might want to install a better system. I'm completely happy with the one it comes with though.
Gas has been a concern of mine and I'm sure yours lately. I'm sure what the actual gas mileage on my Camry is. According to http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/16405.shtml
The 2000 Camry is 22 MPG in the city, 30 MPG on the highway, and a combined average of 25 MPG. I have never really paid attention to things like that, I just fill up when I need it but that does sound correct.
Like I said, I love this car. I don't think I can see myself buying any other kind of car for a long time. It handles well, drives great, has plenty of room and is so comfy. This was my first car but I have driven several other cars. The Toyota Camry is my favorite :-)
