I also recently purchased a 2001 Monte Carlo SS. I started looking for a used car after changing the serpentine belt on my used 1996 Ford Taurus GL. It gave me good service for several years but as the mileage approached 200,K I decided it was time to look. I was undecided exactly what I wanted until I saw the 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo. I was a signature away from buying a 2005 LS but they couldn't quite get the payments where we wanted and I started researching Used Monte Carlos and found that the 2001 SS was a good value.
I checked our local dealer and found a nice used white 2001 SS. As it turned out I was luckier than I thought, I found the original registration in the owners manual and contacted the individual and found he was the original and only owner!(Am I glad I didn't buy the LS!)
I love my Monte and don't plan on having any other type of vehicle from this point on, I do agree with wishing it had real wheel drive as I grew up in that era but none the less doesn't make it less of a quality car, thank you, Chevy
