An Economy Car That Doesn't Look Like a Sh*t Box.

Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Price, looks nice.
Cons: Low on horse power, front wheel drive.
The Bottom Line: Probably the best economy car out there in this price range.

Finally an economy car that doesn't look like a sawed off rolling sh*t box. (Toyota Echo drivers and Geo Metro drivers you know who I'm talking to.)

The first thing you'll love about this car is the PRICE. These have to be the most affordable used cars in the world right now. Think price, price, price. You don't have to spend a lot to get an Accent.

The car looks nice from the outside, but looks are subjective. Here are the facts:

- The car is small and easy to park.
- It's good on gas.
- Mine was still under warranty when I bought it used.
- The car is light and nimble.

Outside
----------

The dimensions are parking lot friendly. The car actually looks very similar to a variety of other cars on the road (ie: Mazdas, Toyotas, Hondas, etc.)

I have the hatchback version. No big deal there.

The engine is...well... not that powerful. Not surprising with less than 100hp. You really notice it when trying to climb a hill at highway speeds. The car needs to drop a gear to get up the hill, you can't really muscle your way up in a higher gear. And I'm driving by myself without any luggage in the vehicle. So don't look for performance from an Accent.

And it's a front wheel drive vehicle and I don't like FWD much but what can you do?

Inside
----------

The interior is basic. Nothing in my car is electronically powered (windows, locks, etc.)

The instrument cluster is simple and easy to read. The car has a park brake which is handy in emergencies. The seat can be adjusted manually a number of ways. Passengers in the back seat are not going to have much room. Consider this a two seater and just get the 2-door version.

The car has a lever on the floor to open the gas cap from the inside. Very cool. Prevents gas theft.

I like how you can have the lights completely off while the car is running (provided the park brake is on). For those times when you want a little privacy...

The radio does not have any buttons that light up at night. So the first thing you might want to do is replace it with a decent radio that does.

Otherwise everything is fairly standard. There's even a cup holder to tucks away into the dash.

The rear seats fold down for extra storage in the trunk too.
