After owning several used cars, I decided that it was time for me to go down to the dealership and look for a brand spanking new one. As I walked the lot of the local GM dealership the alero seemed to jump out at me. I read the stickers and compaired the pros and cons for both the 4 and 6 cylinder versions, and decided that I would first take the 4 for a spin and if I wasn't satisfied there was always the 6. After 10 minutes of driving the 4 I was sold, the power that the little 2.4liter produced was great, of course it was aided by the 5-speed manual tranny, the handling was wonderful. So I bought the car that day, and after the first day or two I had gotten used to the little things, like autolights, putting it into reverse to turn off the car. After the first week I couldn't help myself I needed to find out just how fast it could go, so i got onto the nearest stretch of highway and slammed the petal to the ground, immediatly unleashing the smell of burnt rubber into the air. At 6500 rpm i shifted into 2nd then another 6500rpm later i was in 3rd already going about 87mph, the smile on my face must have been from ear to ear, then unexpectedly in 4th gear at about 5800rpm the govern kicked in, I was completely disappointed in the fact that i was only going 105mph and it seemed to have only taken but a few seconds to get there. The fact is this car could easily get to the 130mark and maybe further with just the 4. I've only had this car for about 2months but i can tell that it's going to be a great experiance, and i definitaly recommend this car to anyone who is looking to have a little fun on the road without paying those sports car prices.
