Pros: Good ride, automatic lights!
Cons: Transmission and tires.
Bought the '01 Intrigue GL in winter of '02 with only 10k miles on it. Paid less than half of original price.
Overall, it's been a great car. The only major problem I had was the transmission. It took two trips to the dealer in two weeks, ending up in a complete replacement of the tranny. Fortunately, the warranty covered this. Unfortunately, I hear the tranny is an issue with the Intrigue and other GM cars on the same platform.
That and the fact that the battery literally exploded. Fortunately, the battery is enclosed in a housing, so there was no damage. Dealer replaced the battery under warranty.
In addition, the tires, although Goodyears, were pathetic. They had a lot of problems and eventually had to be replaced...at my own expense. They were cupped and the steel belts inside broke. Can't blame Olds for bad Good year tires though.
No problems since.
The car has plenty of muscle. The 3.5 V6 has good power. It rides smoothly and is quiet.
I enjoy the power sunroof, the power leather seats which are heated, and the steering wheel controls for the stereo and cruise control. Makes it very convenient and comfortable.
The car has traction control, which can come in quite handy. Note that the first time you feel it kick in, you'll be quite surprised as it is an unusual feeling. You'll know it's kicked in because the traction control light illuminates on the dash to let you know.
When turning and using the turn signals, a light comes on to shine toward the direction you're turning. Very nice at night. In addition, the driving lamps are very good in foggy conditions.
The car has automatic lights. This is perhaps the best feature. You never have to turn the lights on or off. The car does it for you automatically. Of course, there is still a switch for manual operation as well. However, it really never needs to be used. The car also has "sort of" daytime running lights. The turn signal markers in the front are always on once you turn the key on.
Gas mileage has varied from low 20s to mid 30s based on driving conditions.
The trunk is extremely spacious. The back seat folds down easily (60/40 split) to make even more room.
There are two very good cup holders up front and the rear seat has a pull-down cup holder for two cups that goes up and stores away easily.
There is an extra power outlet on the passenger side of the dash console near where the passenger's left leg is. It's very convenient.
The center console stores CDs and is quite roomy. The doors also have storage compartments, both front and rear.
The trunk is easily opened by a touch of the remote or a button on the dash. This makes it very convenient to open.
One complaint is that the rear door window controls are not lighted as are the front controls.
I like this car. For what I paid, it's the best car I've owned to date.
