Pros: AWD and lighter weight than full sized SUV
Cons: Brakes and weak dealer support
We have a 2001 Subaru Outback LL Bean Wagon that has needed 2 brake jobs. The first at 18000 miles and the 2nd at 39500 miles. We would feel a strong pulsation in the brake petal when braking and the brakes would squeal when the brakes were applied while driving in reverse. The squeal is still there after the 2nd repair job. We do not drive the car hard and rarely drive where we might cause the brakes to overheat and warp. I strongly suspect a manufacturing defect in the brakes, but Subaru has not come clean on this. No other vehicle I've owned has had this kind of brake unreliability.
