Smooth refined ride

Recommended: Yes
Pros: powerful V6, silky smooth transmission, quiet, quality, refined
Cons: understeers, leans too much when driven hard, not a sports car
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend. Excellent value for money, comparable to cars that cost $10 k more.

I'm approaching my second year of owning a 2001 Solara SLE. Overall I have been happy with the vehicle. The quality of build has been excellent without any major problems. It doesn't handle as well as an Audi A4, BMW 330 i or Lexus IS 300 but the engine has 200 HP and is fast on the highway, very stable and serene with almost no wind noise, Lexus quiet. The seats are comfortable and all the buttons on the dashboard are where they're supposed to be. I went to the Toronto Autoshow one year and sat inside almost every model (Acura, Nissan, Audi, Infiniti, VW, Honda, BMW, Ford etc). I was impressed by the quality of plastics used in the Solara's interior, equal or better than the other brands and it feels like driving a more expensive car. The car does understeer like the Camry but it's still fun to drive and has excellent acceleration. I haven't grown tired of the styling, it's a nice looking car with more flare than a generic looking Honda or Ford.
Also, traction control works great in the winter and the breaks are solid and dependable.
