This is a vehicle that commands attention. It doesn't get it because it's a Toyota.
I have owned this vehicle for three years now and have decided it's time to sell it.
My praises for this car
1) The styling is on of the most eye catching on the road. It's reminiscent of a Ferrari.
2)The car is fun to drive with the 5 speed manual. It has quick acceleration. HOWEVER, It doesn't feel overly fast compared to other cars in its class such as Honda Civics or Pontiac Sunfire.
Some of my complaints include:
1) This car gets little or no respect. "Nice car. Too bad it's a Toyota ".
2) I paid list price for this vehicle in May 2001 and decided to finance this vehicle instead of paying cash. Big mistake. The finance rate was 5.9% instead of the 1.9% for other Toyotas. I am paying through the nose for this car and could have leased a loaded BMW for what I am paying for this car.
3) The interior is pleasing but the plastic scratches easily.
4) The backseats are disposable. The fabric is cheap. The seats are only suitable for small children.
5) Buying groceries or putting luggage in this car is a nuisance. The trunk is small which is to be expected with a sports car.
6)My auto insurance is high for someone who has had a driver's license for over 15 years and never had a speeding ticket or an accident.
7)My major complaint is the paint job. The red paint seems overly thick and brittle. Stone chips are a huge problem. I have also noticed swirl marks in the paint. Overall quality of the red paint is very very poor.
