I bought my first brand new vehicle ever last year, a black Toyota Tundra Access cab V8. The truck is assembled here in the US, with power train built in supplied by Japan. the 240 HP (Ca model) has plenty of power when you need it, and the thing rides like a limo. The console is a bit dated (I love the dash colors and configuration on the VW jetta as the best example of a dashboard), with standard colors and minimal dial indicators.
The front cab area is roomy enough for me,6'-1" and 215 pounds. The rear cab is tighter than any other of the trucks I looked at, but in pinch , they're ok.
What I do not like is the clunky transmission. When accelrating from about 15 mph, the transmission revs, then suddenly lurches into gear. I checked with two different toyota dealers, and drove a new tundra as comparison. I was told the transmission does that as part of a fuel economy feature. Well, it's annoying. Also the brakes are just too small. you need to plan ahead when stopping a 4500 pound vehicle I guess.
The fit and finish far outclass anything that American makers are offering.
Between the 300,000 mile toyota reputation, the fit and finish, and the overall elegant looks of the Tundra, it is the only choice.
