I recently bought a 2002 RSX Type S, and I am very happy with it. I find myself looking forward to the next time I "get" to drive. I searched long and hard for a new (used) car. My last two vehicles were SUV's, and I was looking for something fun to drive for under $20K (not many options). I test-drove the Acura RSX about a month before I purchased, but I wasn't that impressed with the first ones that I drove. I then started looking at the Mazda3, but the "service" I received at several dealerships was terrible.
I then decided to take another look at the RSX, which, by the way, are somewhat hard to find in South Florida. I actually went to the dealer to test-drive another car (Honda S2000 - WOW!), and while I was figuring out that I couldn't afford the S2000, I saw my RSX on the lot. I test-drove it, loved it, and now it's mine!
What I like about the RSX: It's fun to drive. It has great acceleration and it handles beautifully. For the most part, the whole car has a quality feel to it. The engine begs you to stomp on the gas - second and third gear are especially quick. I think the car looks great inside and out. I love the way everything looks and feels from the driver's seat. The front visibility is great, although it's a little hard to see out the sides. The dash looks great too - I love how the gauges are a little raised up off the dashboard, and how they glow red at night. I also like how the needles (on the speedometer and tachometer) start at 6:00 (instead of 8:00), which makes you feel even more like you're driving a race-car. So far, it seems to be pretty good on gas too. The AC climate control is a nice feature, and it works well. Set the tempature you want in the car, and the car will maintain it. It also has most the options anyone really needs - I suppose all it doesn't have is navigation, but that's not important to me anyway. The brakes are impressive too (4-wheel disc) - they will stop you very quickly.
What I don't like about the RSX: the stereo is woefully inadequate. You would think a BOSE stereo with 7 speakers, including a subwoofer, would sound pretty good, but it doesn't. I will be upgrading the stereo very soon. I don't even hear my subwoofer - I'm not sure if it's working. The six CD changer is nice, but the stock speakers have a poor sound quality, and anything above low to moderate volume will cause you to turn it down. I also think the seats could be a bit more comfortable (when I drive my girlfriend's G35 now, I feel like I'm riding on a pillow). But after all, it is a sports car. I have also found myself looking for an armrest on several occasions (there isn't one), but this is more of a problem when I'm getting in, or shifting around in my seat - I don't really use one while driving.
I use to have an Integra (1987), which was also fun to drive, but I LOVE my RSX. Of all the cars I've ever owned, it is so far my favorite. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase, and very happy with the RSX, and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about buying one.
I should also note that I had to take it to the dealer for service (very minor), and the Acura service was great! They even washed my car for me.
