After my beloved 1995 Thunderbird was totaled when a 80 foot maple tree fell on it, I was forced to buy another vehicle. I had looked at many vehicles but none had the nice soft comfortable quiet ride and construction quality that i was used to with my T-bird. I finally came across a beautiful 2002 Crown Victoria LX that had that nice soft quiet relaxed ride that i had grown to love. After a 5 mile test drive i bought it hands down. I bought this vehicle because it could accomidate my body frame easily (i'm 6' and 205 lbs.) without those butt pinching seats that most cars have. What i enjoy the most about this vehicle is all the power accesories are easy to reach/operate without fussing around with buttons that have egyptian symbols like most cars do.Engine Performance...For a 4000 lbs. car, it moves out with authority, with that nice V8 roar when called upon (some may not like that). The transmission shifts very smoothly unlike earlier fords. Passing power is kind of spooky between 40-55 as the car seems to lack torque in this range.Gas mileage...BLEH!(15mpg)...although highway mileage is a dramatic improvment(28mpg). Ride...very smooth and relaxed,though rough roads tend to transmit more bumps than expected.Handling...very light steering that transmits very little road feel,and is unforgiving if pushed too hard in curves/corners(but then again this is not a sports car) Interior...although very solid in build, some interior materials seem to be very cheap and "plastic" in nature.The sound system is the worst part about this car. I cant not understand why ford would put a "hi-tech" pioneer stereo head in with 15 watt speakers, but it gets the job done.By the way, i'm 31 years old and still like my tunes(maybe thats why i am so critical about this).Climate control is great in either ac/heat/automatic mode. My only real big gripe about this car and with many fords is a rather poorly applied finish. Very close examination reveals light paint/clearcoat in certain areas of the grille and wheelwells. I work for a RV paint shop so i tend to notice "minute" details like this that most would not see,or care. If you still crave the good ol' days of the big V8/rear wheel drive cars with that big sofa on wheels feeling and rock solid reliablity(I've had no problems what so ever not even a squeak)i recommend the Crown Victoria strongly.
