In 2007, I give you details of my history of the 2002 Honda Accord .

Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Reliable so far, finish great, brakes vg, visibility vg.
Cons: Seat in not as comfortable as I would expect. Styling is totally boring.
The Bottom Line: Good car, would purchase used if price not out of line.

I an writing this review with some history with this car. I feel it's best to wait a while to review a car, so you can evaluate all the of the nuances about it that will annoy or delight you. So, you used car buyers - here it is! Here are my observations and opinions, in no particular order:

- styling - The styling of this car is boring; no other word really explains it. I have very hushed tone pin-striping on my white Honda LX, and it adds an awful lot to the look of the car. I would recommend you have the pin-stripe put on it; I hope it doesn't cost you much on a used car.

- reliability - Way above average. I haven't had a real problem yet. When I do, I'll modify my review.

- Steering - The steering is typical. I find that in the middle of the steering, it steers a little "hard", that is, you need some slight muscle to move the wheel. At the extremes, the power really kicks in. So it feels different to me from previous ford/gm cars.

- Brakes - Very good feel. I love the brake action, best car I've had on brakes.

- Engine - This engine (v6) is quiet, really quiet. When I first got the car, sometimes I didn't think it was running because it was so quiet. That sounds like something I would make up, but it's actually true.

- Interior - The interior is ordinary. The quality is average, I think. Plastic and cloth seats in mine. The console is average, with double compartments, one atop the other. 2 side-by-side cup holders in front, one of which is too close to the console for large cups. 2 cups together wind up being kind of tight in the cupholders.
The seats are the only real problem with the interior. I find the seats too hard, and on long drives, are uncomfortable. Not horribly uncomfortable, just too stiff and little cushion. Glove box average, could hold maybe 20 maps and a few other things. Rear comfort is above average, very good leg room in back. Gauges are good, two separate elapsed miles indicators. Gas gauge very useful and highly linear. Tilt wheel is at the extreme "up" position; you would have to be pretty small to need to tilt it down. I would actually like it to go up a little more.

- Maintenance - I change my own oil and it's fairly standard and easy to do. The car has an interior cabin filter that needs to be changed periodically, and I changed it myself. It takes several hours if you've never done it before. You have to remove a good chunk of the lower dashboard and the glove box. If you buy used, you'll probably need to do this or convince the prior owner or dealer to do it for you. The engine air cleaner is typical and fairly easy to replace. I haven't had to replace any bulbs yet.

- Finish - I have a white car, and the paint/finish is still very good, better than the Dodge my wife has. It still shines up pretty nice. The bumpers (plastic) have a few scrapes, as per usual in a car. They don't come out.

- Mileage - Yours will vary, mine is about 21mpg mostly city. On the highway, somewhere around 26, (not an exact figure). This is the v6. Just slightly worse than I would have hoped.

- Power - With the v6, I have adequate power. I seldom gun it, but in a tight situation, it has reasonably good response. It's not a porsche.

- Trunk - I find the trunk typical of a midsize, it can hold a giant suitcase and two smaller ones, or groceries for a family of 10, I would guess. I find it roomy. It also has a fold-down rear seat, and a little "peephole" thingy between the rear seats that opens to put it a 2x4x8 or whatever.

- Handling - The handling is average, but the stopping ability (I perceive) as above average. It does lean a little bit, like most mid-size cars I have driven.

- Transmission - The shifting is smooth, I don't get any jerks (other than fellow drivers) when I drive. The overdrive engages at about 40mph. I do notice a non-linear de-acceleration as it shifts down at about 20 mph, and then seems almost to speed up when coasting. It doesn't really, it just slows down somewhat rapidly, then doesn't slow as rapidly at about 20mph. Not a problem, though.

- Visibility - Great. My wife has a Grand Caravan, and I appreciate the good visibility of the Accord.

- other things - Here are some random thoughts. The car is reliable, according to various expert sources. However, if you do need to repair it, it will likely cost more than some other cars. The parts are expensive (I saw a headlight assembly on the internet for $900) so don't get sucked into the thinking that a Honda can never break. This car has a great record, but it is quite ordinary in looks and operation. I am not knocking it, just telling it like it is. I'm happy with it from a practical sense, but it lacks any pizzazz.
