I haved owned my 2002 Oldsmobile Alero since it was new. I have the 2.2 Ecotech (140 hp) 4 cyl. engine. When Oldsmobile made this engine it was not only the fastest 4 ever put in a mid-size GM, but one of the best. I not only can beat (on the line) most 6 cyl. cars, but can top out at 107 easy, in a matter of seconds. I cannot argue that it is at times cramped- but speed? There was no other 4 dr. sedan in 2002 that had the power of the Alero, (4 cyl). The Civic tops out at 110 hp, and thats the new 06' Model.

why would you get the 4cylinder if you wanted power? (Reply to this comment)

I agree with you about the car - I own one and don't care for it - but don't you think if you wanted 'power' you would have gone with the 6cylinder? I think the 4cyl has 140 hp?
Aside from Lotus' and other high end cars, most 4Cylinders aren't built for guts and performance they're built for gas mileage.
I had a GMC Sonoma with a 4.3 Litre Engine and that had 'Power' - my Alero with the six is decent but it's 'Oldsmobile smooth' so it never lets you feel the 180 hp it has.
