Re: V6 Underpowered? (Reply to this comment)

Safe to say that I disagree with you on the performance of the motor - especially when paired with that automatic transmission. The best I've seen anyone say about the V6 is that it's "smooth." Not powerful, not invigorating...but smooth. I would also challenge the notion that the car is not soft - especially when compared to foreign cars in its class, not a Pontiac.
That said - I'm happy that you're happy with yours. That's what counts. Thanks for reading & taking the time to comment. Cheers.

V6 Underpowered? (Reply to this comment)

I find it odd that you have an issue with the V6 being underpowered. HP and Performance aren't really the same thing and in fact the Alero V6 which I happen to own, is definitely no slug. In fact the V6's acceleration has been noted as a major plus in many professional reviews. I've driven a Grand Am and a Sunfire with the ECOTEC L4 which is the same L4 in the Alero. The ECOTEC I'll admit isn't a zoomy performer and needs to rev a bit before it acheives good power but I wouldn't call it a slug. Also, perhaps it's my GLS with the low-profile tires, but handling and ride isn't on the soft side. In fact the ride is quite firm and doesn't lean too much in the turns. However the lighter steering feel can give that impression I find. I happen to like the car quite much and this is coming from someone who wanted a Grand Prix and still do. However the Alero V6 has plenty of zoom (don't know how you can call it underpowered considering its 0-60 time is quite good compared to the competition but whatever), it's affordable, it's manoverable around town and looks classier than the red-neckish Grand Am.
