I have always liked Oldsmobiles and was sad to hear that GM was dropping the line. To me they always had a combination of value and performance that was tough to match. Last year I found myself needing a new car and I was looking at ones a year or two old. I drove a bunch, but when I drove this 2002 Intrigue I knew in the first couple of minutes that this was the car for me.
The car handles superbly. It has a 3.5 liter "Shortstar" twin overhead cam V-6 that is silky smooth and powerful. The seats are firm and supportive, the styling clean, and the equipment mix includes almost everything you could want. I bought the car one year after it had first gone into service and paid half of what it stickered for new. It came with 2 years of full warranty and 4 years of powertrain warranty remaining. What a deal!
I've had it now for 6 months and it has been absolutely perfect. Not one thing to take it back to the dealer to complain about, just a couple of oil changes. The more I drive it, the more I like it. The engine is superb - it loves to rev, pulls like crazy, and makes me think I'm driving a race car sometimes.
Mine is Tropic Teal on the outside, a pretty, high-metallic paint, with a two-tone pewter interior. I don't normally like gray-tone interiors but this one is nice because of the two-toning and the shades chosen.
All I can say to sum up is, what a shame Olds is going away. This car competes very favorably with cars like the Accord and Camry. I drove them both, and liked this one better right away. GM just didn't know how to market these cars properly. Too bad - it was maybe the best car Olds ever made in its price range.
