Pros: tank feeling, character, theater seating, go anywhere vehicle, low resale if you are the buyer
Cons: thirsty, expensive repair bills, low resale if you are the seller
4 months ago I picked up a used 2003 Discovery SE with 85K miles for 6000.00 USD. It was cheap because the 3 amigo lights were on and it had a cracked windshield. I took a gamble and bought it knowing repairs were needed. Prior to buying it I asked my brother who also owns a 01 Disco, if these cars were reliable. He had to replace the head gasket on his but said the car was worth it if you wanted a vehicle with a distinguished character. Discovery owners he said you either love it or hate it. After driving my car home I drove the car for a few days and then decided to take the Disco in to get the car repaired at a local shop. I spent about 2100.00 to replace the brake pads, brake sensor, major tune up, water pump, and a new windshield. Not too bad for the amount of work done on it. I'm sure it would have cost 2K more if I had it done at the Land Rover dealership. So far I've racked up over 3K miles on this puppy and totally love it. The feel of the vehicle is unmatched. It's solid as a tank, and thirsty as one too. No new problems have risen (cross my fingers) in the months since I repaired it. I am hoping this car won't be one of the lemons I've read so much about. BTW, my other car is a corvette and I don't drive that anymore. The corvette is boring compared to the Disco.
