The wife now has 50k on our 04' Alero, and as a Hot Rod Hobby mechanic I can say it is a well designed car. I'm also 6'3 and fit comfortably from the waste up, but the legs are always rubbing console or door. The only thing I've had to fix was the air director control knob on the heater / AC controls. Taking it apart does show fairly flimsy designed so turn these controls gently, too harsh of thumb and finger can strip or break these controls. The Ecotec is nothing short of the best 4 cylinder I've ever seen from GM. Outstanding reliability, very impressive power and with educated conscience driving easily up to or better then 30mpg. This has been a far better car then her 97' v6 Mustang was.
My only complaint in the engine bay is a lack of trans fluid dip stick and ease of changing transmission fluid, a shop must do it.
We bought this end of 04' slightly used 19k miles, was a previous rental car, and has been an excellent vehicle. Especially to get an 04' in 04' still for $8995. Yes we jumped on that dealerships Advertising leader in the paper.
I think it has great looks, nice wheels and drives very pleasant. The gauge layout is nice, clear and easy to use, interior very tasteful, much nicer then the camel humped ugly dash of it's brother, the Grand Am.
I'd recommend this car.
