Good utility vehicle (Reply to this comment)
by hdawudi
I'm 29, 6'2" and 200 lbs. I bought the sport model v6 in white/black and paid $26.3 otd for it. The engine has a lot of torque but is a little noisy. On the highway there is some wind noise from the a pillars and it is fairly smooth for a truck. The active damping suspension really helps prevent the bobbing/rolling of the truck. I probably wouldn't want one without that feature (x-reas I think). It is also kind of big to manuver but i'm used to small sedans. It gets a few complements a week and I think they look masculine except for the hood scoop which takes away from the clean desinged front end. It also comes with the towing package standard alond with everything a man could want. Don't get sucked in with all the gulf states options though, find one without all that junk and it will be 2K cheaper.

A note on the competition (Reply to this comment)
by lisatoy
I just wanted to add a note on the competition you mentioned. At the price/trim level you review, the 4Runner competes more against vehicles like the Acura MDX, Nissan Pathfinder, GMC Envoy, or even the Land Rover Discovery, than it does the Xterra or Element - each of which is a more entry-level SUV. While I agree that the 4Runner outshines those entry-level models, it is also substantially more expensive - anywhere from $10,000 - $15,000 more.
When stacked up against some of the others in its class, the 4Runner is still impressive, but not perhaps the clear champion. There has been a great deal of innovation in these mid-sized, mid-priced SUVs in the past few years, and all of these models offer serious performance with amenities people demand from a $35K vehicle. While Toyota has indeed put together an impressive package, the other makes are worthy competitors...

I feel like the Grinch! (Reply to this comment)

You certainly gave a lot of information in your review but it was mostly about specs and options. After reading this review twice, this is all I could find regarding your opinion of the actual vehicle you tested:
"During my test drive, I found the 4Runner to be very responsive. It performs to satisfaction. The ride was smooth and quiet. Its engine provided a solid performance. There was no whining and odd sound coming off the hood. In fact, I barely heard that the engine was turning."
That is very good information, but... Is the car comfortable? Does it handle well? Are the brakes good? How's the view out the window and the gauges? Are the controls well placed? Is there good headroom, front and back? Can you carry much stuff in the vehicle?
If you update your review with more of your personal observations about the vehicle, let me know and I will re-rate.
