Did You Ask for a Sports Car? 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder
by jo.com | Nov 17 '03
Pros: Beautiful, handles well, priced well, convertible with a glass window.
Cons: Can't drive it in the snow or ice. May be tough on babyboomers' backs.

Oh gosh well luckily we've kept my husband's old truck so we have a backup 3rd vehicle. And finally the sun has come out in MA, USA so we might even be able to put the top down. I love it and really surprisingly I go to the grocery store and shop - no problem. jo

Good review. Well done. (Reply to this comment)

As an excited owner I agree to your comments.

Sadly, you are VERY right about not taking the car into snow and ice. It's very dangerous as I can tell you from being there!

In The Netherlands we only experience these conditions a couple of weeks each year. So if it snows, I walk...

One more note re: this statement
"On the glass rear window with defroster, most convertibles have these these days." I think it is important for anyone, especially new people to understand that we write for the consumer (at least last time I read the member center, who knows maybe that's changed!). With that in mind, you might know the sentence above which you stated, i.e. "everyone knows this, it isn't necessary." But not everyone does. This was the first convertible in I don't know how long that I looked at. The last one I looked at (giving away my age- though I don't mind - 51)had a plastic window! Others may also be in the same place I was at and do not know that the window is glass. I think though experts may know, the layperson may not, thus its importance. jo

Toyota and have for years. I have not had the good fortune to drive a Spyder....yet! Hubby drove one from Kansas to Florida and he said that was way too long a drive in that size car! He is 5'10" and got really uncomfortable and...it didn't have cruise!
Good review!

Thanks Bob, though not perfect, I spend a lot of time on my reviews for very little IS. Just as an aside, my husband just called and looked at the little BMW (Z I think). That one has a trunk and probably drives in the snow! I'm on my way to look at it. jo

That's what a garage is for! (Reply to this comment)

I enjoyed your review and think you should have gotten the car -- after all, a garage is a place to store your sports car during bad weather. Last year, I gassed up my sports car in November and didn't fill the tank again until June... and I live in a so-called "sunbelt" state!

Nice review that I think will help those looking for information on this car. Thanks for sharing!

Informative but could use some editing (Reply to this comment)

Writing is unnecessarily repetitive in places. For example:

"The car we test drove (I was a driver and then a passenger while my husband drove.) was a brand new white convertible. Of course this little toy is a convertible and they don’t come much cuter than this one."

"In spite of the leg and headroom, the inside is small and it does feel like a toy. It is a toy and the salesman, who was a mechanic for 17 years before coming on the floor, agreed."

In each case the second sentence doesn't read well. I no doubt have similar instances in my own reviews, but it never hurts to clean them up.

On the glass rear window with defroster, most convertibles have these these days.
