Pros:Natural ingredients (no chemicals), inexpensive, easy to use, lasts.
Cons:Not sure if it works, brushing a dog's teeth is not an easy task.
The Bottom Line: I'm still deciding on if I like this and if it's working or not...

Frankly, my dog needs to go to the vet and get his teeth cleaned. This is not only costly, but they have to put my dog under to scrape his tartar. I was told this at his last vet appointment, so I have him scheduled for one. In the mean time, I wanted to be able to give him something for his teeth besides bones/chews. I bought this tooth gel for dogs and so far, it's decent, but I wouldn't say miracles have happened.

My dog's breath naturally smells funky. He eats healthy dog food and it has salmon in it, fish/omegas, chicken and all that jazz that would make breath funky. It's not terrible or anything, but it smells like dog food most of the time.

I bought a dog toothbrush and I squeeze some of this gel on it (like you would your own toothbrush). It's a clear gel and smells minty. I grab my dog's lips and try to pry them open nicely. He's a little wiggly when I do it, but eventually opens his mouth. I try to brush as much as I can on all of his teeth and of course some of his teeth are jagged/sharp and not as square as human teeth. All I do is cover the teeth with the gel and then let it do its job, there is no rinsing. The key is to do it gently, you do not want to scrap the gums or anything, causing more bacteria. I try to do it twice a week, but of course you could do more or less depending on the dog.

The ingredients are; glycerin, aloe, pectin, neem oil. grapefruit seed extract, baking soda, papain and natural flavors. The grapefruit seed is a natural anti-bacterial. Baking soda cleans and papain is an enzyme (that would eat away food on the teeth). The directions are to use it 2-4 times per week.

You just twist the cap and squeeze onto the toothbrush. It is easy to use and I love that the ingredients are natural and not full of chemicals (otherwise I would not have bought this). This will last a LONG time, it is 3.5 ounces, I would think maybe a year.

Honestly, it can be difficult to get a dog to open their mouth to brush their teeth, so if you can get your dog to do it, then great. I don't want to do more than twice a week, because I'm not sure how the paste would affect my dog's stomach and he's already sensitive to things like wheat.

I don't notice any adverse affects, but honestly I don't notice any improvements, either. I guess we'll see when I take him into the vet. I also wish it were easier to brush his teeth (like just giving him something to chew on would be easier).

I paid around $5-6 on Vitacost for this and you also need to buy a dog toothbrush unless you are using your fingers, which is NOT recommended in case they bite down.

Overall, I'm glad I use this tooth gel and I am crossing my fingers that it is helping his teeth, I will update if the vet says anything next time I take him in.
