Pros:Well written, suspenseful, hard to guess the ending

Cons:hard to follow if you haven't read the other books in the series

The Bottom Line: This story continues to unfold the life of Katherine Mayfield and takes her back to her Amish roots and her long lost love.

This is the third book in Beverly Lewis's Heritage of Lancaster County series. This book picks up with Katherine Mayfield, the former Katie Lapp, finding out that her long lost love Daniel Fisher has not been dead for the last five years, but like her has settled into the "English" way of living. Daniel has become a draftsmen and lives in New Jersey where he has become a Christian and attends a Mennonite church. The reunion however, is not what Daniel expected.

Katherine in the meantime, has started falling in love with artist Justin Wirth, and has settled into her lifestyle of being rich. However, with all that she has around her, Katherine finds herself lonely and wanting for something to occupy herself. So, she starts volunteering at a local hospice and gets attached to a 10 year old boy, Willy James Lee, who is dying of a brain tumor. She also starts a free quilting class and has six students eager to learn the art of quilting.

While shopping in a card store, she runs into two young Amish girls and invites them to her quilting class to help teach her students. This soon develops into a quick friendship between Katherine and this Amish family as she finds herself longing for her Amish home and family.

Not only does she miss her family, but Katherine misses her best friend, Mary Stolzfus. They are unable to communicate with each other due to the harsh die Meinding (shunning) that was placed on Kathering. Mary has also fallen in love with Bishop John, the man that Katherine left standing at the altar when she left to find her real mother.

Just as Katherine is hoping to marry Justin, the communication part of the ban is lifted, and Katherine is summoned home by her dying Aunt, Ella Mae. What happens next turns Katherine's life upside down once again, and leads to an unexpected conclusion to this exciting series.
