The biOrb and biUbe requires that you change its filtration cartridge every 4 to 8 weeks depending on how well you maintain your aquarium water and how many fish there are.
I would recommend changing the cartridge every 4 weeks if you have more than three fish in your tank and once every 8 weeks if you only have one.
There is only one service kit needed for all biOrbs – the baby (4 gallon), regular (8 gallon), mega (16 gallon), and the biUbes (9 gallon).
What is in the Service Kit?
The service kit contains:
1. One filter cartridge
2. One packet of 5ml of API Stress Coat (treats up to 10 gallons)
3. One packet of 5ml of API StressZyme (treats up to 10 gallons)
4. Once 2 in x 2 in cleaning pad
5. Full instructions on how to clean your tank and switching the cartridge as recommended by ReefOne, the manufacturer of the biOrbs.
The filter cartidge is the same size cartridge that fits in all biOrbs and biUbes. It has a filter and underneath some carbon elements to help chemically filter the water. It works together with the biological filtration system (that is created by the “rock” media that comes with your biOrb originally) already in place in the biOrb.
What does the Service Kit cost?
It typically sells for $10.00 individually. You will definitely need them so you need to make sure that you can find them with ease – as they are hard to find at PetSmart or Petco (sometimes you can order them via their websites but at no cost savings when ordering in bulk) – or you will mostly likely have to order them via Internet.
The best thing though when you do buy them in bulk, you get a savings! And when you find an Internet vendor that sells them at no tax and no shipping costs, that is a bargain! So be wise and bulk up when you find a good sale.
The best place I had ordered them from last at a really great price was from Marine and Reef (marineandreef.com from Amazon) which sold them at $43.96 for six – and since I bought two six kits, they came shipping free. That’s a savings over $30!!!
There is also a First Aid Kit - it comes in green where as the Service Kit comes in blue - which helps with diseases and infections threatening your biOrb and its inhabitants. Has a cartridge without the carbon elements and you use it for 2 weeks only.
