Boss GE-7 Equalizer Guitar Effect Pedal

I remember the first day I picked up the guitar. It seemed so difficult to play at the time and such a large mountain to traverse, I never thought that I'd ever learn how to ever play proficiently. Well practice makes perfect, as the saying goes and as the years rack up, I find that I get a little better at it because it's a passion and yet I never feel  I’m  quite good enough. I never thought however, that I would be playing with the caliber players that I do today. I sometimes catch myself in the moment thinking perhaps I don't belong the same stage with some of the players I play along with as they are just that good and yet, I continue to work, so perhaps I could achieve the level of proficiency that allows me to continue to follow that dream.

Musicians are an odd lot, often very obsessive about their gear, not that at the end of the day the gear sounds all that different from each everyone else’s, it’s just that they adapt to their own personalized gear differently. I'm fortunate to play with a number of different bands, each with their own demands.  For each gig I generally take different gear though the one piece of gear that I take every job is the Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer.

Each room has dynamics and acoustics that are altogether different from the room you may have performed in just last night. One room may be very live so perhaps you don't want to much of a high-end on your tone so you can soften it by easing back on the high end, or the room is small and perhaps you'd like to get a little more bottom to fatten the sound a bit all which can be accomplished with the portable graphic equalizer like the Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer.


The Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer is just that, an adjustable graphic equalizer equipped with seven adjustable sliders that allows for a booster a cut of +/- 15 DB   cut or boost. I often use the Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer as a boost for solos or perhaps to enhance weaker pickups allowing to coax them in the mix.  In either case the Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer is a capable pedal that assures that your tone is consistent no matter the room.

Manufactured in the classic Boss bulletproof case, the Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer is sized to match most other pedals in the Boss line. Connections are simple;  side mounted input and output jacks along with a top mounted AC adapter jack are consistent with all Boss pedals  as is their ability to run on the a single 9 volt battery.  

Measuring 2.78" x 5” x 8” inches the Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer takes up very little space on your pedalboard. There are instances where I’ll just go out with the one pedal, no matter an acoustic or electric gig and that pedal is always invariably be the Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer.

How good is it? Well I can say that over the years I have routinely seen a number of players that swear by their Boss GE 7 Graphic Equalizer as I do. It isn’t as quiet all the time and you might have to you have to tame it, especially if it’s placed after an overdrive or fuzz pedal but it certainly can help reduce feedback and shape other pedals on your board.

Priced at just over $100 the boss G7 is not inexpensive and yet is an invaluable pedal that every guitarist should at least take out for an extended listen.
