| Dr_Steph's Full Review: Airborne Overnight Air Express Service |
I normally go for the cheapest shipping costs available because, well because I’m cheap, that’s why. However, this time I decided to splurge. After all, it’s urgent.
My computer monitor sizzled out into bleak blackness earlier this week. It IS covered under warranty but the repair time is estimated to be about a month! In a moment of weak desperation yesterday I got on the phone and ordered a new monitor from Zones.com. What the heck, it won’t hurt to have a back-up, right?
Now that I’m already financially in the hole, I figured I might as well go for it all the way and get overnight delivery so at least I can get back on-line soon and soothe my frayed nerves with some therapeutic surfing (and epinions reading). After all, I really should be working here at work, not doing this stuff.
I ordered my husband to stay home and guard the front door so that he could sign for the monitor when it arrived. I called home several times in the morning to see if it had come and raced home at noon to unpack my new monitor.
Not here.
Well, it was only noon. Surely it will be here in an hour or two.
Nope, didn’t arrive.
Finally I got on the phone to Zones.com and got the tracking number for my monitor. They assured me it was sent yesterday and should arrive today. Whew, what a relief!
Just to make sure, I called Airborne Express and waited on hold for almost 10 minutes. However, when they answered it took them only 15 seconds to tell me that, no, your package won’t arrive today. We don’t know where it is. Maybe tomorrow. Sorry, bye.
Why did I pay $77 in shipping to hear "Sorry, bye?"
Fortunately, the monitor DID arrive on the second day around mid-afternoon. To Zones.com’s credit, they offered to refund my shipping charge so I don’t have to pay anything for shipping. At least they kept a customer...
This is the first time I have used Airborne Overnight Air Express Service and hopefully the last. I have never voluntarily paid for overnight delivery before with other companies so I can't make a direct comparison. However, some shippers have routinely used overnight Federal Express delivery and I have never had problems with them.
Zones.com gets an "A" in my book, Airborne Express gets a "D" (at least they eventually got it here, otherwise it would have been a big fat "F").
