| three_ster's Full Review: FedEx 2Day |
It's odd when it comes to some things that people decide to review, because a lot of time normal services are overlooked until you have something negative to say about them. With me, I use FedEx all the time, and it has become such a routine part of my day, that I don't even think of them as being separate from my work place any more. The truth is though, that they are a business that I am constantly interacting with, and as a result I am a customer that has a lot of experience working with them. I have received and sent packages through FedEx in both a professional, and a personal setting, and thus I think I can give a nice unbiased review about the services they have to offer. Specifically, I am reviewing their 2Day services in this review, and I think that I have a lot to offer in regards to personal experience, and options that exist in the FedEx 2Day Services.
First, I am sure most people have heard of Federal Express, but if you have not, they are a package delivery company that works in competition with UPS and the Post Offices. They try to offer a lot of different ways to save people money, and try to win over their customer base by providing great services to businesses and homes alike. Federal Express services can be done through their web-site, over the phone, or in person at one of the many drop off points around the country. Primarily I do all of my work with them through their online site, because you can set up an account, and just go through a quick series of drop-down menus each time you are sending out a package. You can then print out a form that goes in the box itself, and you don't have to worry about writing out anything, or figuring out exactly what needs to be listed. The biggest benefit of the online services, is that you can have it charged through your account to a credit card, and you don't have to worry about having any cash on hand. Saving yourself hassles at the post office is always a good option in my opinion, so why not take full advantage of it.
When I say two day shipping, the way that they define that is that when you submit a package by their daily deadlines, they commit to delivering it if you have submitted the package, by 4:30pm in 2 business days. There are a couple of exceptions, which include parts of Northern Alaska, but the 2 days is a pretty tight schedule that they like to stick to. The services are offered Monday through Friday, and if you are in a large area, Saturday services may be offered as well. For Saturday, you may want to call ahead to make sure that they are up and running in your area. Federal Express delivers to all of the 50 states, so no matter where you are sending your package in America, you can rest assured that it will get where it needs to go. They do have weight and length limits on the packages, and those are a maximum of 150 pounds and 15 inches in length respectively. That is a rather large box if you ask me, and the heaviest thing that I have dealt with in the 2Day Express was 26 pounds that I just mailed out the other day.
There are varying charges that can apply to the 2Day service, depending on where you are sending your package. Federal Express works with zones while shipping, and if you are sending your package across country, it can cost you more than if you were just sending it across the state. For instance, the package I referred to where it weighed 26 pounds was sent from Pullman, Washington to Rockville, Maryland. In doing so, it went between different zones, and thus incurred a slightly increased total charge. The final quote for the 26 pound, 27x22x17 inch box, came in at $58.81. It was charged an additional $2.25 in there, for a Direct Signature that I was requiring of the recipient of the package. This is an option that you don't have to take, but it probably a good idea if you are sending something of value. We were sending a device that was worth close to $10,000, so we wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to end up missing in the mail. The package was also picked up, so it incurred a $4.00 charge for giving us the door-to-door service. To top that off, since the value was quite high, we were charged 50 cents per every $100 that it was worth as an insurance policy. So all combined it was pushed up to the $58.81. I had thought it would be much higher, so getting in under $60.00 was a nice surprise for me.
When you submit an online order through Federal Express, you can request e-mails for nearly everything that they do. You can have a confirmation on when it hits the mail, when it is in transit, and when it is signed for from by your recipient. So, if you are really worried about a package, you can keep a close eye on it, and use their tools to keep up with it. You are also given a tracking number, so that you know exactly what you are looking for. If you are looking for specific details regarding the rates on shipping through zones, they have a very nice charted break-down on their web-site which you should give a quick look. For me, the zones don't really come into account, because I know I need to send something somewhere, and I will just have to absorb the fee when it comes. It can seem expensive, but for the services that they have provided me, it is well worth it. You can send something relatively cheaply (like a CD or something like that) for close to $5.00 no matter where you send it, so it really does come down to how much weight and space you are using in their services.
On the other side of things, I order a lot of products that are shipped through the 2-day services as well, and is as easy as waiting for it, and then signing that you have received the product. In the hundred times I have used Fed Ex, I have only received a package late one time, and that was due to a storm. Every time that I have sent out a package, I have received confirmation that it was delivered on time, and have never had a problem with the contents being harmed. I have heard people who have had problems with the services that Fed Ex has, but I have yet to have my own horror story about anything that they do. The Federal Express 2-Day Services, have worked exceptionally well for me at my home, as well as in my offices, and it is a business that I am going to keep going back to with the trust that they will get the job done well the first time. With that confidence, I highly recommend the Federal Express 2-Day Services.
