When FedEx opened its hub in Subic Bay (Philippines) it created an Asia-based hub-and-spokes system known as AsiaOne. The AsiaOne Network allows FedEx to provide overnight delivery within Asia. The following cities are covered within the AsiaOne Network:
* Bangkok
* Beijing
* Cebu
* Hong Kong
* Jakarta
* Kaohsiung
* Kuala Lumpur
* Manila
* Osaka
* Penang
* Seoul
* Shanghai
* Shenzhen
* Singapore
* Subic Bay
* Sydney
* Taipei
* Tokyo
Cutoff times out of these locations varies. See http://www.fedex.com for exact cutoff times from each city.
How Does AsiaOne Work?
I was fortunate enough to observe the Subic Bay Hub, the heart of the AsiaOne Network, shortly after its opening. I'll share with you my insights of the AsiaOne Network in action:
Planes converge upon Subic Bay from all directions, where they land, taxi to the hub area and are quickly unloaded. The large containers are brought inside the hub facility where packages are unloaded and placed upon the conveyor belts and are fed into the nightly sort.
Packages move swiftly through the modern sort system and are scanned and routed onto the appropriate belt. The facility reminded me of the FedEx Memphis facility in its early days before it became a huge mega-complex.
The large building was a virtual beehive of activity as everyone was keenly aware of the window of time in which packages had to be sorted and loaded. Despite the sweltering tropical heat, everyone (except me) was moving at a rapid pace. (It was incredibly hot and humid!)
The different belts moved packages down the line and they are placed into their respective containers and swiftly loaded into the waiting airplanes.
These packages will be delivered overnight within Asia. This is a huge feat for FedEx, who opened the Subic Bay Hub in 1995. With more than 160 flights per week, FedEx can provide unrivaled service within Asia.
I could have hopped on one of those FedEx planes and reached an Asian or North American destination a lot faster than by taking a commerical flight. (At one point in the sweltering heat I was tempted to ask a pilot if I could jumpseat back to Memphis with him.)
Next Business Day Service to North America
Additional benefits of the AsiaOne Network include next business day service from Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul, Osaka, Kaohsiung, Taipei, and Manila to destinations in North America.
Delivery to Other Areas
