In evaluating a shipping company, there are two very distinct views from which to see things: The shippers perspective and the receivers perspective. I personally have never shipped anything using FedEx Express Saver, so Im assuming that must be where the appeal is to this service. As a person who has received many items shipped this way, I can tell you that it is the worst option available.

My guess is that FedEx offers very competitive rates to businesses that choose this method of shipping. That is probably why so many Internet stores offer this method either free or very inexpensively. I know an argument can be made here that if it were not for the discounted price, we would pay more for the items we buy or pay more for shipping. After the experiences Ive had, Id gladly pay a little more.
As a receiver, or a person who is waiting on a package, which is coming to me via FedEx Express Saver, this service drives me nuts. Here is an example of what you can end up dealing with.
On Friday of last week, I ordered a new digital camera from a store in New Jersey. I received email confirmation that my camera was shipped out via FedEx Express Saver that very same day. Just for reference, I live in PA. An item that would have shipped from NJ on Friday via UPS Ground (their least expensive service) would have gotten delivered to me on Monday. FedEx however, was not that good. Oh dont get me wrong; they COULD have gotten it to me that fast. According to the FedEx tracking feature, the package arrived at my local FedEx distribution center on Sunday evening. That is plenty of time to put it on the van for delivery on Monday. When it didnt arrive on Monday, I called FedEx to find out why. I was told that because the package was not sent priority, it is being held ON PURPOSE in a container! I may not get it until Wednesday. In other words, it was possible to get it to me fast, but because the much more expensive priority shipping wasnt chosen, they will make darn sure I dont get it that fast. What the
UPS will not hold a package intentionally just to make you realize that if you want it faster, there are more expensive options. If you choose their least expensive ground service, you still might get it over night if its a close enough ship. Thats the way to run a shipping business.
I wish more of these stores on the Internet would realize that the few dollars in savings isnt always worth the aggravation.
