There are times when the business gets calls for last minute parties. Because of limited warehouse space and need for custom product we do not keep a high inventory in-house. It's times like this that we use FedEx Standard Overnight service. Most of the vendors we deal with use them too. It's usually their sending product to us that is more important than our rare use of having to send out product in such immediate fashion. There are times when we have to send samples to clients just before an event and then it's us who set up FedEx Standard Overnight service.

When in a bigger rush FedEx does offer same day and next morning delivery too. In most cases 'Standard' does the trick.

Reasonable Time Frame

When we do use the service we are promised delivery by 3PM the next day. We are on Long Island in NY so there's no problem. We have always received our product on time when the vendors ship to us this way. We never had a problem when shipping either. FedEx Standard Overnight extends the time to 4:30PM in most rural areas but not all. You must check with them. Alaska and Hawaii are most hard hit in that regard and some parts are not offered the option.

FedEx offers this service Mon-FRi with an extra charge for a Saturday Pickup.

Service Covers Most Packages

We use outgoing for smaller photo proofs and such. Incoming can be just about any size, weight and shape. FedEx Standard Overnight service is for packages up to about 150 pounds. There are length and width restriction for odd shaped and longer/bigger packages. Call them or check their web site for more information.

The pricing is not prohibitive and a good deal cheaper than the same day or next morning options. Prices can be found via their rate quote tables that depend on the service and delivery zones.

Tracking Packages

When we are the originator of a package we get in touch with FedEx and they make a pick-up in good time. I also like that we can track a packages going or coming with ease via the Internet. Just the other day we ordered product from Buffalo NY. I punched in the order number and watched as the package was first shipped to Syracuse, then to a New Jersey destination. About an hour later the package was on the way to Bethpage on Long Island. The next move was on to a truck to be delivered.

The package was delivered a little after noon. Nice work!!

I like to be able to track the package. It gives me a sense of security and even if not really true, control too. I suppose if I saw the package still sitting in Syracuse at noon the day of delivery it does give me the option to pick up the phone and give 'em a piece of my mind...not that it would get the package to me any sooner.

Last Thoughts

I like the price, prompt service and reliability of FedEx Standard Overnight Service. We haven't been burned yet and that's a very good sign!
