The primary overnight courier of packages and checks for the company that I work for is Federal Express and although they almost always deliver the letter or package overnight as is expected, they are some short comings of this service which make it somewhat adequate at best. They provide the bare minimum and do not seem to have a grasp on the idea of the customer coming first.
The Bad!
Federal Express prides itself on its customer service. The couple of times which I have dealt with them have been less than satisfying unfortunately. I remember one time I was trying to find a package which Federal Express was unable to deliver. I visited the web site and saw some ambiguous information there about where the package was. Called up a Federal Express representative and asked them where the package was. Their response was that we do not know. My response was what!. I was left stunned and befuddled. I was promised a call back from them with more information later that same day and never received a call back. The package was finally discovered two days later and three days late overall. Their claim was it was being sent back to the originator because of a failure to deliver at the receiving end but I never got a good answer as to where it was for two days.
Prices are also pretty high at Federal Express. Although this does not really affect me as an employee, I know that in comparison to other services it is somewhat more expensive but you are paying for the name recognition when using Federal Express. If I had to overnight a package personally, I would probably have to go with another service.
Some Good Stuff
There are some good things about Federal Express. Despite my earlier thought, I do love their web site most of the time which is updated within minutes of being received at certain points on the route to its' destination. It also is reliable but I think that is to be expected when paying for such a vital service such as this one.
In conclusion, Federal Express gets the package there but other services may be better for your buck.
