You still can get detailed tracking of you package at all stops along its journey. When you go to track a package,there is a link to track your package progress and it gives you specifics.
I also disagree with your premise that they make your package sit at a warehouse just to make you pay for priority shipping. That is ridiculous. If you send a package and they tell you it will take 3-5 days, then you should it expect it to take that long. If a package were to take the last remaining space on a truck that is going out the door, you bet yer aris they are going to fill that space with a higher priority package which has paid for the privilege.
I have had nothing but great service with UPS, but I do agree that the prices are a bit steep.
