2 years ago I spent a semester abroad in Venice, and my favorite daily activity was shopping. Fine wines, Turkish paper and Venetian masks filled my room as I tried to buy myself every beautiful thing I could find in the city. The ultimate result? A collection of gifts and souvenirs that far overwhelmed the maximum weight limit of my flight home. How was a shopaholic to survive...UPS!
Right before I left Venice for good I called UPS to tell them I needed to ship a great deal of property. That afternoon a deliveryman showed up at the door of the house and handed my three good sized UPS boxes, informing me that I should pack my property in them and call when I was ready. The boxes were spacious and extremely strong. I packed each of them fully with my property and called back UPS. The man returned in the morning to pick up my boxes, about 20-30 pounds total. I was charged in the neighborhood of $125-150, which was surprisingly reasonable considering that sending the same items through the questionable Italian post would have cost almost $100. My package arrived safely at home in Connecticut within a matters of days, with not a scratch on them. UPS had managed to flawlessly deliver my gifts over the sea and through customs, saving me countless hassles and customs fees. I couldn't have been happier!
While the concept of a package arriving "within a few days" and still closed may sound ridiculous as praise, one must understand the workings of the Italian Postal System. There it is common for mail to be opened to look for money inside, and for packages to be "lightened" on their way to a recipient. I saw this happen first hand on multiple occasions, and even had a pre-paid phone card pilfered from a Valentine's Day card...cruelty...
I also received a UPS package on one occasion midway through the semester. My loving parents sent me a care package of sour mix(for whiskey sours), Advantix film, family pictures and a few of my favorite CDs. The shipment arrived within a few days of being sent, and it arrived in perfect condition.
For delivery service to and from Italy, UPS has proven itself to be up to the challenge. With dependable service and fairly reasonable pricing, it's a safe and effective alternative to postal shipping. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has to ship a valuable or delicate items, UPS is Unwaveringly Protecting Stuff...
