Pros:Baseball scenes, realistic, and smart.
Cons:Sometimes it is too smart for the room, and below-average acting at points.
The Bottom Line: Great movie for anyone with a passing interest in baseball.
One of the few remaining innocents in this world remains Minor League Baseball. Teams full of twenty-something year old kids getting paid to play baseball. It is a perfect life from all outward appearances. Bull Durham tries to give the viewer some insight into this life. Never having played professional baseball, I cannot speak to the reality of the movie. All I can say is that this is how one would hope the experience is in real life.

Kevin Costner (with a few exceptions) delivers a great performance as Crash Davis, the more mature, father-figure and catcher for the Durham Bulls of the Carolina League. He is in charge of grooming young pitching prospect "Nuke," played by Tim Robbins. The baseball aspects of this movie are amazing. Costner, a former college baseball player, is very believable as an athlete. Robbins also can pull-off the appearance of a Minor League pitcher.
This movie is equal parts smart, funny, and sexy. A little too sexual for the kids, but perfect for those 15 and up. The sexual content is a key aspect of the movie. It is not a film that incorporates sex just to draw interest.
This movie is fantastic. Bull Durham is a piece of Americana that is important for any baseball fan to see. Not only is this movie a "must see" for baseball fans, but it will make the casual baseball observer a hard-core fanatic.
Every aspect of this movie is authentic. The music is good, including the important addition of "Centerfield" during on of the montage scenes. Another amazing feature of the film would be the ballparks. Each different stadium has that feeling associated with the Minor League Baseball experience.
Buy Bull Durham. You are two decades late, but it is worth the wait.
