I picked up the Canon Pixma MP250 All-In-One InkJet Printer on sale for $30 at Walmart. The first thing that attracted me to this printer, was the price. The box had an actual picture of the printer posted on two-sides of it along with had two "hand-holes" for your fingers to easily carry the box like you would a shopping bag.
After opening the box, you'll notice the printer is pretty well packed with cardboard surrounding the sides preventing damage during shipping. The printer itself, is packaged in a clear plastic bag that is easily taken off. The manual, driver-cd, power cable, and usb cable are all packaged in a seperate plastic bag that is tucked away on the side of the printer, inside the box. Both printer cartridges (black and color) are seperated stored inside small boxes, next to the printer.
Installing the printer cartridges is easy. You open the front of the printer, then open the top of the printer and you'll see two slots for the cartridges. You take the plastic off of the cartridges and pop them in easily. Close up the printer, and you're all set. The whole process is very simple and will take less than one-minute.
Installing the drivers from the CD is very simple. Once you put the CD into your CD-ROM drive, you'll be prompted to install the software very easily. The process takes a couple of minutes.
The actual printing job the printer does is done very well. Images and text come out crisp and clear. The downside is from the time you hit "print" to the time it actually starts printing is varied. Sometimes the printer takes up to 30seconds before it will print out a simple document. While the printer is "thinking" before it prints, you'll hear noisy movements of the internal parts. I can't accurately describe the noise, but it sounds like a lot of sudden, jerky, stops are going on inside the printer. This doesn't affect the printing quality, it's just a nuisance.
Copying a document is simple. Put your document inside the scanner, press the "+" button to the desired number of copies, and you're all set. The copier works quickly and easily.
Scanning a document works just as simply. Put your document inside the scanner, and click "scan" on the printer's control panel. That's it, you're all set. The scanned image will be uploaded to your computer very quickly.
I've never had a problem with paper-jams or misprints. This printer has worked very well for my needs.
Replacement cartridges can be found for under $20 on some of the more popular websites. My initial black cartridge lasted me about 4 months with normal use. My initial color cartridge is at around 50% with about 6 months use on it, although I do not print many things in color.
