I recently got an iPhone, and while at AT&T picking up said iPhone decided to pick up a case as well. I don't like many of the iPhone case designs that are out there - I don't like glitter, animal prints or anything too masculine, sporty, tween-ish or plain. That limited me a bit, but when the salesgirl went in the back and came out with a stack of cases in different designs for me to look at, the Case-Mate Pink Birds by Tad Carpenter iPhone Tough Case caught my eye. I love the whimsical, early 70's-ish print and knew immediately that this was the case for me.

The Case-Mate Pink Birds by Tad Carpenter iPhone Tough Case is a hard, white polycarbonate case with pink and yellow birds with light blue and light green accents printed on it. The printed hard part of the case covers the back and the left and right sides. The case also has a pink silicone frame that covers the front frame, top and bottom of the iPhone.
This case fits the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. It is what Case-Mate calls a "Tough Case", meaning that the case has the silicone as well as the polycarbonate. Their "Barely There" cases have the hard case around the sides and back with nothing covering the top, bottom or front frame of the iPhone.
Tad Carpenter is a designer who designs whimsical iPhone cases for Case-Mate. According to his website, he does many other things as well.
So like I said, I like the early 70's-ish print and the birds are cute. The case is feminine without being too young. Even though the case is predominately white and pink, it still looks good with my black iPhone in it.
Prior to owning an iPhone and this Case-Mate Pink Birds by Tad Carpenter iPhone Tough Case, I had no idea if there was such a thing as a bad quality case or if all cases were the same. But I can say without a doubt that I definitely think that this case is a good quality case. For starters, the fit of it is perfect. The pink silicone fits around the buttons, ear bud jack, camera and docking part perfectly. I was worried that everything might not line up exactly, but it does and that's one of the reasons why I think this case is a good quality case. It fits the iPhone like a glove and isn't loose and doesn't seem too tight-fitting.
When I first purchased this case, I was concerned that the polycarbonate part of it would shatter as soon as I dropped the iPhone. So far, I've dropped it a couple of times (only on carpeted surfaces, though) and it hasn't cracked or broken. And most importantly, the iPhone wasn't harmed. I drop it most often at home in the living room, which has a thicker carpet than the carpet in my office at work. I have also dropped it on the carpet at work and haven't had a problem with the case cracking or even budging. So far, I'm pleased with the durability of this case.
Another concern I had with the Case-Mate Pink Birds by Tad Carpenter Tough Case is that the silicone on this case would attract tons of dust and other junk. But I'm pleasantly surprised that so far it has attracted a fraction of what I thought it would. Whether it's sitting on my desk at work, in the console of my car or in my purse, when I pick it up, it may sometimes have a bit of dust or fuzz on it, but it's never the amount I've expected it to attract.
I was also concerned that the design printed on the case would wear off, and while I've only had this case for about a month now, so far there is no sign of the design wearing off.
All in all, I have been very pleased with this iPhone case. I balked at the $35 price tag at first, but hadn't really researched prices of iPhone cases before buying this one, so while I thought that $35 was a lot to pay for a piece of polycarbonate and silicone, I'm glad I have this case. I will probably buy other Case-Mate iPhone cases in the future, because for me, an iPhone case is like a purse and owning just one is not enough. I like the durability and design of this, and really like the overall function of the Tough Case since it has the silicone as well as the polycarbonate. The other Case-Mate cases I looked at also seemed to be made well, so I will check out Case-Mate first when looking for another case.
Price and Purchasing Information:
This case is no longer shown on Case-Mate's website so it's probably discontinued at this time. However, I found mine at my local AT&T store so maybe it can still be found at AT&T and/or Verizon brick and mortar stores. It wasn't in with the iPhone cases in the showroom; the salesgirl had to go in the back and look for it. Online, it can currently be found at Amazon.com for about $21 and at ATT.com for $35.
