Clinique Stay-Matte Oil-Free Makeup Keeps my Face Shine-Free!
Written: May 3, 2012 (Updated May 3, 2012)
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Maintains matte finish in heat and humidity Broad choice of shades Blends easily Makes pores less visible
Cons:None
The Bottom Line: If you have oily skin and want your face to stay shine-free, I highly recommend Clinique's Stay-Matte Oil-Free Foundation.
When I wrote my review on Clinique’s Stay-True makeup a little over a year ago, I stated that the product was being discontinued. Still, every time I went to purchase a new bottle, the shade I used was always available. Only some shades were discontinued and I personally feel they continued selling some of the shades until they ran out of stock. The time finally came and when I went to Dillard’s to purchase the make up, they finally discontinued this product completely.
The replacement for Clinique’s Stay-True makeup is Clinique Stay-Matte oil-free makeup.
Description: Clinique’s new Stay-Matte oil-free makeup is packaged in the familiar green and pink box with a large, silver “C” and the word, “Clinique” just below in the same silver color.
This makeup is not contained in a glass bottle as the Stay-True formula, but in a clear plastic, flat tube. The tube has a nearly flat, silver, twist-off cap. Upon twisting off the cap, there is a tiny opening which dispenses the makeup.
Upon squeezing a tad of the makeup out of the tube, I knew it was definitely not a liquid. foundation. The consistency is thick and feels creamy at first, but then immediately dries to a matte finish.
Clinique Stay-Matte oil-free makeup provides sheer to moderate coverage. It is oil free and made for combination oily or oily skin.
This new formula has been tested for streaking and fading at 88 degrees F and 80 degree humidity and still controls oil and absorbs shine. It is also allergy tested and 100% fragrance free.
Clinique Stay-Matte oil-free makeup is available in the following shades:
Linen, Alabaster, Creamwhip, Fair, Ivory, Cream Chamois, Golden Neutral, Neutral Honey, Vanilla, Beige, Sand, Deep Neutral, Cream Caramel, Ginger, Golden, Spice, Amber, Clove and Sienna.
My Experience: I had no idea which shade would match my complexion. The Clinique consultant placed a dab of four different shades on my cheek with a Q-tip. I don;t know which shades she tried, but the Neutral shade blended with my complexion the best.
The Clinique consultant then blended the Neutral makeup over my entire face with a foundation brush. The constant brushing irritated my skin.
The next day, when I applied the makeup to my face, I was surprised of the dark color of neutral! I placed a dab on my forehead, my nose, each side of my cheeks, and my chin. It stayed in place, unlike a liquid foundation. I then blended the foundation with my fingertips until it was evenly distributed. Upon completion of the application, the shade was not too dark at all and immediately turned into a matte finish. It didn’t settle into my lines, and provided excellent coverage of my few broken blood vessels.
I was told by the consultant to wet my finger tips to blend the chin line into my neck and this worked well to prevent a “cut-off” point of the foundation.
The makeup stayed matte for most of the day until evening when my nose and forehead began to become shiny. Another plus to this makeup is that it makes your pores less visible.
My Take: I really like this formula, but I am eager to see how it will hold up to heat and humidity. I do miss the Stay-True formula, for I was able to mix different shades into an empty bottle according to the season and the difference in my complexion. It would be a difficult task with this product.
The ingredients on the box are too lengthy and too small to read to list. I checked online and the ingredients were nowhere to be found. Sorry.
Cost: I paid $23.00 for a 1 oz. tube of Clinique Stay-Matte oil-free makeup. It can be found at most upscale department stores, Sephora, and online.
Thank you for reading my review.
