This is our first experience in the world of digital photography. While shopping around we narrowed our choices to SONY branded cameras, since we already were using SONY's proprietory memory stick media (Sony TRV 720 Digital 8 video camera). It actually took awhile for my wife to convince me to go digital, since as a hobbyist photographer I felt 35mm film still provides me the best quality and was more cost effective.
My views on film versus digital changed when I got this camera, it made me realize that cost effectiveness, nothing beats digital, but as for quality, digital (this particular camera) still a far cry from even from my $20 point and shoot camera. This is even more evident when shooting indoors or at night. Noise was just too much. The camera has a noise reduction function, but it only turns on when the shutter speed is 1 sec or slower, which is impractical when shooting moving objects, like people for example.
For daytime, outdoor shots, quality is quite good almost rivaling film quality. The only drawback was since the camera has only 2 megapixel, enlargements are limited to 5 x 7.
Flash photography on this camera is very disappointing, it takes too long to recycle which often results in missing capturing moments.
