First, let me say this device is great. If all you do is PowerPoint presentations and you don't need wireless mouse control - GET THIS DEVICE NOW!! It provides a simplified and elegant solution to advance and reverse your slide as well as a provide a built-in Laser pointer. Another button hides and unhides the slide for use at the beginning and end of your presentation. If you want to read about my personal experience with the device, then read on. Otherwise, stop here and go buy this remote!
I am in charge of the Audio-Visual for an annual three-day conference of over 600 Doctors. We use a large ballroom with side-by-side 9 x 12 foot screens and 2 industrial strength Sanyo projectors (3500 ansi with long throw lenses.) Now these Doctors may be good surgeons, but when it comes to technical stuff, they are all thumbs. When I saw this device advertised, I ordered it. I had seen other devices but they had too many wheels and buttons. This thing was perfect for the Docs. Just 4 simple buttons to remember and they are all marked with cute, tactile icons.
Unfortunately, the first device that I received didn't seem to work properly (I would push the button and nothing would happen.) After calling Interlink tech support, they said no problem, must be a defective unit, we'll ship you out a new one. The second unit I received has performed flawlessly since day one.
So here is this nicely weighted, polished remote that just FEELS SO GOOD in your hand. And it works from at least 50 feet away on radio waves. I used to have an old IR remote -what a pain. The nice part is, some of our presenters use their own laptops and some use the house laptop. Well, anytime a presenter wanted to use his laptop, I just plugged-in the USB dongle (about the size of a Thumb Drive) and about 20 seconds later, away we go! I only had one presenter whose machine didn't recognize the device properly and that's because he was running Windows '95.
Every presenter commented on the Interlink Remote and wanted to know where they could get one! It really is a well made device and so simple to use.
I will say that even for such a large room the laser pointer did an ample job. The battery life was terrific (2 AAA's lasted the weekend easily.)
Now, if you need mouse control or want to do fancy things like zoom in, then you'll have to get a different device. And if you don't need a laser pointer, Interlink has a similar device to this one for 1/2 the price. But for what this device costs (Retail $149 - about $100 Street) you can't go wrong.
In summary, if all you do is PowerPoint presentations, and don't need remote mouse control or to zoom-in on the screen, then you MUST add this device to your bag. You'll wonder how you ever did without it.
